Perfect Homemade Biscuits

Lets Live Yall Biscuit Header

I know it’s quite a statement to say these biscuits are “perfect” but I can’t lie. I mean look at that picture! Flaky, fluffy, & golden brown, how could it not be perfect? These only take 10-15 minutes to bake and a few minutes to mix up and roll out. So simple and they always turn out perfect. Definitely a breakfast staple.

Lets Live Yall Biscuit Ingredients.jpgTo make these beautiful babies you will need: butter, flour, an egg, baking powder, cream of tartar, salt, milk and sugar.

Preheat your oven to 450 degrees.

Lets Live yall Biscuits butter.jpgGet your dry ingredients and COLD cut up butter into a food processor. Pulse until the butter is coarsely ground. You could do this by hand with a pastry cutter but let’s be serious, it’s early, my coffee hasn’t kicked in yet and I’m lazy.

Lets Live Yall Biscuit doughYour dough will be a bit sticky. Flour a working surface, turn out the dough and knead 10-15 times. Roll out to about 1 1/2″ thick and cut into biscuits. I use a plastic cup with a thin edge because I am not fancy enough to have a biscuit cutter. The key to cutting the biscuits is to push straight down, don’t turn your cutter, if you do it will seal the edges and you will not get that beautiful fluffy biscuit we’re aiming for here.

Perfect Homemade Biscuits

3 cups all-purpose flour
3 Tbls sugar
½ tsp salt
4 tsp baking powder
½ tsp cream of tartar
¾ cup COLD butter
1 egg
1 cup milk

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  2. Combine the dry ingredients and cold butter in food processor pea-sized pieces of butter throughout the dough.
  3. Add in the milk and egg and mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a generously floured surface. Sprinkle some flour on to the top of dough so it won’t stick to your fingers and knead 10-15 times.
  5. Roll or pat the dough out to 1 1/2″ thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter or thing edged cup. I can get up to 12 biscuits. Place the biscuits on a lightly greased baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.
